Delta College presents a Draft Facilities Master Plan Workshop, Tuesday, Sept. 7th

San Joaquin Delta College will unveil and discuss its Draft Facilities Master Plan at a
Facilities Master Plan Workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 7th at 5 p.m. in the Board Room,
Administration 103
.

Over the past year, Delta College has worked diligently to complete the Educational Master Plan and Facilities Master Plan. These plans serve as outlines for Delta’s long-range strategies for growth, renovation and expansion of its facilities and curriculum. Delta’s Board of Trustees will be asked to review the Draft Facilities Master Plan at Tuesday’s workshop.

This year, Delta College held a number of Facilities Master Plan forums throughout its district. These forums provided an opportunity for the College to share its future educational plans with “stakeholders” in its district. Attendees were encouraged to provide input on the kinds of learning spaces and facilities they would like to see at Delta’s main campus and regional centers.

Dr. Matt Wetstein, Delta’s Dean of Planning, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness, says, “The Facilities Master Plan envisions planning for growth, renovation and expansion over the next 15 years in three 5-year phases. In the course of reviewing the plan with various committees, governance groups and community stakeholders, we have developed a list of projects that are seen as most pressing (phase 1), followed by second and third tier priorities.”

Goals and objectives for Delta’s Facilities Master Plan include:

  • Emphasizing Sustainability
A “Green Campus” and “Net Zero Energy” is the ultimate goal.
  • Creating State of the Art Facilities
Distinct architectural style that says “quality”; flexibility of spaces; provide facilities and infrastructure for Distance Learning.
  • Promoting Interaction and a Vibrant Campus Life
Interior lounge spaces and outdoor gathering spaces; centrally located offices; campus layout elements that improve way finding.
  • Reflecting the Community
Creating spaces for recreation, art installations, walking and bike trails; expand partnerships with the community; workforce development & private/public partnerships.

Dr. Wetstein feels the Facilities Master Plan Workshop is an excellent way for residents of Delta’s district to, “recognize we’re on the right track with our academic/vocational programs, and the curriculum we hope to offer in the future.”
