San Joaquin Delta College hires Dr. Susan Cota as Interim Superintendent/President
San Joaquin Delta College's Board of Trustees announced the hiring of Dr. Susan Cota as Delta's Interim Superintendent/President at the Tuesday, August 3rd board meeting. Dr. Cota will replace
Dr. Raul Rodriguez, who was hired by Delta College in 2002. Dr. Rodriguez accepted a job as Chancellor of the Rancho Santiago Community College District in Orange County. His last day as
Delta College Superintendent/President was August 6th.
Dr. Cota was selected from a final pool of candidates that included Dr. Sherrill Amador, former president at the Palomar Community College District in San Diego County, and David Mertes, former Chancellor of the California Community College system.
Dr. Cota has over 30 years experience as an educator, and last served as Chancellor of the
Chabot/Las Positas District until her retirement in 2007. Dr. Cota was the first Hispanic female to
serve as a California Community College Chancellor.
Dr. Cota has held various academic positions in the California Community College system, including counselor, director, and Dean of Student Services. She also served the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office as Statewide Administrator of Disabled Students Programs and Services. In 2004, under Dr. Cota’s leadership, voters approved a $498M facilities construction bond. The bond provided for the complete build out of Las Positas College in Livermore and the full renovation of the Chabot College campus in Hayward.
Known as an administrator that puts students’ needs first, she has received the Community College League of California Courageous Leader Award and the Outstanding Educator in Administration Award from the University of San Francisco Alumni Society.
No stranger as an interim president, Dr. Cota completed service in 2009 as Interim Superintendent/President at the MiraCosta Community College District in Oceanside. Dr. Susan Cota began her service at Delta College on August 23rd. Her appointment is expected to last 7-12 months.
