San Joaquin Delta College Awards over $245,000 in Scholarships!

San Joaquin Delta College awarded over $245,000 in scholarships at its annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Thursday, August 12th, at 3 p.m. in Atherton Auditorium. A reception honoring the recipients followed in Danner Hall.

This year, over 400 awards were made to 248 students, with many receiving multiple scholarships. Students are awarded scholarship money under various criteria, including grade point average (GPA) and demonstrated financial need. Awards range from $100 to $2,000.

Delta’s Scholarship Awards Ceremony has been an annual event since 1980, when the first program awarded $43,000 in scholarships. This event recognizes the achievements of San Joaquin Delta College students and the generosity of many individuals and organizations whose financial support makes the Scholarship Awards Ceremony possible. During the past 30 years, Delta’s Scholarship Program has awarded over $4.75-million in scholarships.

Denise Donn, Director of Financial Aid & Veteran Services, says Delta’s success in building its scholarship fund depends on the efforts of its employees and generous community members. “The pre-ceremony work takes many months. The application process is very involved and takes countless hours of volunteer time. We deeply appreciate the commitment of our staff and community partners; we couldn't do it without them.”

The Delta College Scholarship Program is a partnership between the college, community organizations and individuals whose charitable financial support honors and promotes higher education.

Denise Donn adds, “The scholarship ceremony is one that makes everyone ‘feel good.’ We always encourage the public to join us while we watch the joy and gratitude of our students as we help make their dreams come true. This is not an experience to miss!”
