No Child Left Behind…Bars Campaign
The 2009 Youth Empowerment Summit "Changing the Odds,” Friday, Sept. 16,
at Delta College, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM

(Stockton)

On October 16th, 2009, young people and youth organizers from throughout the Central Valley, Southern California, San Diego, and Bay Area will be convening at the 2009 Youth Empowerment Summit at San Joaquin Delta College in Stockton!

The purpose of the summit is to help facilitate the building of a stronger multicultural youth movement in the Central Valley and collaborate with youth from Southern California, San Diego, and the Bay Area to create change that benefits all youth in California.  The summit will provide hands-on interactive workshops on the following categories: Educational Equity, Juvenile Justice and Youth Organizing. We intend to link youth to the political process, teach youth how to organize around community issues, promote higher education and career planning and create a stage for youth to share narratives about community struggles and organizing efforts, and lastly, involve youth in a statewide youth organizing campaign.

We will be holding a press conference Q&A after the Panel Plenary entitled The Broken System.  The Plenary will involve expert panelists exploring practical solutions that bring together public policy, institutional practices and community transformation.   The “Broken System” plenary and press conference is scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM in the Tillie Lewis Theater.

If you have any questions or want further information regarding the ESPINO Youth Empowerment Summit please don’t hesitate to call Motecuzoma Sanchez @ (209) 518-8120 or Chanda Chhin at (209) 351-2645.
