The LH Horton Jr. Gallery is pleased to present the work of three new Fine Arts Faculty members of San Joaquin Delta College:
Gary Carlos grew up in Stockton and attended Delta College after High School in 1990. He went on to receive a BA from San Francisco State University in 1995 and an MFA from San Diego State University in 2004. He has taught art with numerous colleges, schools, and community organizations, which included creating collaborative public art projects in the San Francisco and San Diego areas. His work deals with issues related to land use practices, and American culture. His work has been included in many national exhibitions and publications including "Suburban Escape: The Art of California Sprawl," published by the San Jose Museum of Art.
Kirstyn Russell is a photographer whose work has been shown internationally. Russell received her BFA from New York University and her MFA from California College of the Arts. Kirtstyn started taking photographs when she was fifteen at Berkeley High School. She has taught Photography at several local colleges including Sonoma State, Diablo Valley College, and California College of the Arts before starting full time teaching at Delta College in 2008.
Ruth Santee is a California artist whose work has been exhibited in museum, public, non-profit and gallery venues. This summer Santee participated in a large traveling exhibition through [5]gallery in Tampa Florida and is currently exhibiting work through Off-Space Gallery in Oakland.
Born in Denver Colorado, Santee received her BFA from the College of Santa Fe and her MFA for the San Francisco Art Institute. She is the recipient of the Cadogan Fellowship Award from the San Francisco Foundation and an Outstanding Achievement in Drawing Award from Bradley University.
Santee has participated in exhibitions both locally and nationally. Her work has been included in numerous public installations including the San Francisco Arts Commission’s Public Art in Transit Program and the San Mateo City Arts Commission CalTrain Art Program. Santee’s sculpture "Padded Armchair and Ottoman" is permanently on display at the University of Oregon, Eugene. Prior to joining the art faculty at San Joaquin Delta College in 2009, she taught at art at Bakersfield College, Saint Mary’s College, UC Davis and the California College of Art in Oakland. She has guest lectured at the University of Minnesota, Rochester, and Sonoma State University.
The LH Horton Gallery is located on the campus of San Joaquin Delta College, on the ground floor of Shima Center, and is wheelchair accessible. Admission is free and open to the public. Recommended parking is available in the Shima lot for a nominal fee of $1. Tours are welcome, and Gallery Talks and special needs may be addressed by contacting the Gallery Director, Jan Marlese at:
