11th Annual Student Art Exhibition & Awards Competition
April 22 - May 19
Reception: April 22nd, 5-7 p.m.
Delta Center for the Arts LH Horton Jr. Gallery presents the 11th Annual Student Exhibition & Art Awards Competition, April 22 – May 19, 2010. The opening reception is planned for Thursday, April 22nd from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.
This exhibit features the work of currently enrolled Delta College students. The annual juried exhibition is open to students of all disciplines, campus wide. The visual arts faculty juries the exhibition, and issues awards based on technical proficiency, creativity, and the potential for growth within the visual arts. The Awards Competition provides an opportunity for Studio Arts Majors to receive recognition and prize awards. Students competing for an award submit a body of work and address their creative goals through a written statement. The awards are all donated by community members, and include: Frank W. Clancy Memorial Awards: Best of Show $300, 2nd Place $200, 3rd Place $100, and five additional $100 awards – Edward Freedman Memorial Award, Eric Hitt Memorial Award, Blanche McDaniel Memorial Award, the Bill Williams Award for Drawing. There are also five Honorable Mention Awards from the Division of Fine Arts & Communications, four $50 awards and one $100 award from the Dean of Fine Arts & Communications.
The LH Horton Jr. Gallery is a non-profit organization and a premier exhibition space in the city of Stockton. The primary mission of the Gallery is to promote the exhibition of quality and culturally diverse artwork in support of our students’ education and the community at large. The Gallery offers excellent exhibition opportunities to local, regional, and national artists, lenders and guest curators. The Gallery presents artists’ work in all media, with no thematic or geographic restrictions. Student Exhibitions are held at the end of Spring Semester. Artists’ work is selected through submission of exhibition proposals, juried by the Gallery Committee.
The LH Horton Gallery is located on the campus of San Joaquin Delta College, on the ground floor of Shima Center, and is wheelchair accessible. Admission is free and open to the public. Recommended parking is available in the Shima lot for a nominal fee of $1.
