(Stockton)
Learn about Delta College’s beautiful trees, the natural history of California and how you can become an active member in preserving our environment! Delta College presents Earth Day 2010 on Thursday, April 22nd, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. This year’s celebration takes place in Delta’s central quad and Atherton Auditorium.
Admission is free and open to the public.
The celebration will include information booths presenting methods to “go green” and conserve our natural resources, a vegetarian pizza with organic ingredients and an IPod raffle.
“Earth Day at Atherton” features presentations by Delta College instructors from
11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Topics will range from protecting urban watersheds, understanding how our cultural beliefs have lead to an ecological crisis, and a Delta College debate team presentation- Resolved: Should Paper Get a Second Chance?
“We are in the process of raising awareness,” said Delta College Spanish Professor and Earth Day organizing committee member Elizabeth Schwartz. “The Earth Day event can help us gather ideas for developing green practices on campus.” Some actions, according to Schwartz, have already been adopted by the Delta community. “Delta College President Raúl Rodríguez signed the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment. This initiative is a formal pledge to develop more sustainable practices.”
Students are encouraged to voice or submit written ideas for developing green practices on campus at Earth Day’s Innovation and Sustainability Committee Booth. “Many students want to help improve our environment but do not know how,” said Delta College Political Science Professor, Jeanne-Marie Velickovic. “This event will provide information that will guide the public to action.”
