Delta College's Lawrence & Alma DeRicco
Student Services Building open for Business!
San Joaquin Delta College officially open its doors to the new state-of-the-art Lawrence & Alma DeRicco Student Services Building on Tuesday, September 29th, in the Cunningham 1 parking lot.
The DeRicco Student Services Building is named after former Delta College Superintendent/President, Lawrence A. DeRicco, long considered one of Delta’s “Founding Fathers” and his wife, Alma, a dedicated advocate on behalf of the college.
Delta College Superintendent/President, Dr. Raúl Rodriguez, says this event will mark the culmination of almost four years of detailed planning and construction. “The new building will serve as a monument to Delta College’s commitment to the needs of its students and community for decades to come. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the college. We are proud to dedicate this landmark in honor of Lawrence and Alma DeRicco.”
The 50,000 square foot building will consolidate all non-instructional student services into one convenient location, serving as a “Gateway” to the campus. New students will obtain all the services necessary to become enrolled at the college and continuing students will receive student support services. “The Student Services faculty and staff are excited about working in the new state-of-the-art DeRicco Student Services building and embracing the ‘one stop’ concept of serving students,” Says Vice President of Student Services, Trudy Walton. “We will have new opportunities to provide efficiency in the delivery of our services.”
The center’s services include: Admissions and Records, Assessment, CalWORKS, Career Center, Counseling, DSPS (Disabled Student Programs & Services), EOPS (Extended Opportunity Programs and Services), E-Services Lab I/II, Financial Aid & Veterans Services, Outreach & Community Relations, Transfer Center, and the WorkNet Center.
The building’s unique architectural design maximizes available space, includes a second story terrace, and adds a visually appealing addition the existing landscape. Delta’s staff began occupying the building September 30th. Initial services started during the 2009 Fall Semester.
Funded by the $250 million Measure L Bond, the DeRicco Student Services Building is one of several major campus projects slated for completion over the next year. Projects include: Renovation of the existing Goleman Learning Resource Center, which will create a modern, up-to-date library, and new Data Center, which will serve as the technology hub for Delta’s entire district. Delta’s Measure L funded South Campus at Mountain House in Tracy, opened its doors to students on August 17th, and had its official dedication ceremony, Dec. 4th, 2009.
Dr. Rodriguez believes the Measure L Bond Program is an example of community support that has always been critical to Delta College’s success. “The DeRicco Student Services Building and others funded by the Measure L Bond, will allow Delta College to move into the future. Our strength as an institution is tied to the belief that education can change lives. With the dedication of the Lawrence and Alma DeRicco Student Services Building, we begin another exciting chapter in the story of San Joaquin Delta College.”
Lawrence and Alma DeRicco cut the ribbon for the Delta's new Student Services Building on September 29th, 2009. Joining the DeRiccos are (Lft. to Rt.) Delta College Board President, Steve Castellanos, Superintendent/President, Dr. Raul Rodriguez, and Vice President of Student Services,Trudy Walton.
