For Immediate Release, 03/25/08 Hispanic Outlook Magazine Ranks Delta College in Top 50 for Associate Degrees Granted to Hispanic Students (Stockton)
San Joaquin Delta College placed 32nd in Hispanic Outlook Magazine’s annual “Top 50 Community & Junior Colleges for Hispanics” rankings. The March 10, 2008 issue derived its rankings from the National Center for Education Statistics most recent community and junior college data. Of Delta’s 1457 degrees awarded, 327 went to Hispanic students, accounting for 22%.
Rankings were collected from 1,195 community and junior colleges throughout the United States; of California’s 109 community colleges, Delta ranks 15th in degrees earned by Hispanics. The top California community college is East Los Angeles College, awarding 809 degrees to Hispanics.
The American Association of Community Colleges reports there are 11.6 million students enrolled in community and junior colleges around the U.S. 55% of all Hispanic undergraduate students are enrolled in community and junior colleges. Hispanic Outlook Magazine says the expected lifetime earnings for a graduate with an associates degree is $1.6 million. Top state and national rankings are nothing new for San Joaquin Delta College. Community College Week magazine’s most recent “Top 100 Associates Degree Producer Charts” ranked Delta 7th in California as a producer of associate degrees in all disciplines. Delta ranked 11th in California and 32nd nationally for associate degree graduates in Multi/Interdisciplinary studies.
