Delta’s DeRicco Field Gets Free Olympic Level Track Upgrade
(Stockton, CA)
Delta College’s Lawrence A. DeRicco Stadium is currently undergoing a major renovation funded by the Measure L Bond. Renovations include artificial Field Turf and a new Mondo competition track. Mondo USA has offered Delta a free upgrade from the Mondo Super X Track, to the new Mondo SX Track System. This is the same track system that will make its official debut at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing this summer.
“We are fortunate and surprised by their upgrade offer,” says Delta College Athletic Director Gary Scott. “To get an Olympic quality track for Delta College is a phenomenal thing. Delta will be the first college in California to have this advanced training and competition track. It will benefit our athletes for years to come.”
“Rest assured,” says Ryan Suarez, Mondo USA’s Northern California Sales Rep., “this upgrade is at NO cost to San Joaquin Delta College. Mondo believes that DeRicco Field will be a showcase for all Community College districts to admire.”
Suarez says Mondo began research in 2006 with the objective of developing a new track system that would improve athletic performance while safeguarding the athlete. “Respecting human physiology and biomechanics was paramount throughout our development. This research led to an innovative track and field surface with a new embossment that provides greater traction, contact area, and a new (patented) hexagonal backing system that provides optimal performance, control and comfort.”
The result is the Mondo SX Track System. The track has an estimated 15-20 year lifespan. In addition to athletic performance benefits, the track will be easy to clean, have greater water flow efficiency in rainy conditions, and be aesthetically pleasing. Paving of the DeRicco Field track is slated to start late June, with final surface installation expected the second week in August.
Ryan Suarez finishes, “Mondo USA looks forward to supporting the Delta College Mustangs for many years to come.”
