Fashion Club’s “Nearly New Sale” Supports Fashion Education,

Nov. 21 & 22 at Delta College's Danner Hall

(Stockton, CA)

The popular “Nearly New Sale” is a major fundraiser for the Fashion Club. This year’s sale is set for Friday and Saturday, Nov. 21 and 22, in Danner Hall, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The “Nearly New Sale” assists in students' costs for field trips and fashion tours of the industry. Students work hard all year to source out inventory from local and national retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers. They price the inventory, then merchandise and display it for sale the day of the event. Months prior to the sale, they develop marketing materials and distribute information about the event throughout the community. Students learn the retail side of the business while creating a “Nearly New” store. They stock the store, sell to customers, market, advertise and develop skills in sourcing and pricing.

The event has become so popular, people drive from as far away as Sacramento and Roseville to take advantage of the great deals. The “Nearly New Sale” has been covered by the Stockton Record, Good Day Sacramento, and other local and regional news media. The event is a favorite among regular customers. They have purchased items such as True Religion Jeans for under $10, a Louis Vuitton Hand Bag for $200, a rare mink hand bag for $150, shoes from Nine West and Franco Sarto for under $10, and other great deals. Prices start at just $1!

Inventory for sale includes select items such as designer handbags and vintage jewelry and accessories, new and nearly new apparel and accessories for men, women and children. Also included are home decor and accessories. Most items are still marked with retail and wholesale price tags. All items are sold for a fraction of the price, at near garage sale prices! The inventory is seasonal, so shoppers will find spring and summer apparel and accessories, spring and summer décor for home and garden, as well as many unique items from estate collections and unique retailers.

This year, the event is supported by generous donations of new inventory from such retailers as Galetti's, Stage Two, Flair Boutique and CR Porter in Lincoln Center; The Wish List and Simply Charming on the Miracle Mile; Pret, City Girl, Something Special and Fashion Safari in Lodi; Bella Bridal in Stockton, as well as San Francisco-based manufacturers like The Sak, Weston Wear, TSD, Flax Designs and Cut Loose.

Delta’s Fashion Program is strongly supported by the local and national fashion industry. Each year, students take an annual trip to New York City to tour the industry and meet with business professionals. Students have the opportunity to meet name designers like Kenneth Cole, Jhane Barnes and Betsey Johnson; designers from companies such as Tommy Hilfiger, Kate Spade, Tori Burch and Nanette Lepore; trend forecasters from companies like Trend Union, Style Pages and ESP TrendLabs. Students had the opportunity to tour top retailers like Henri Bendel’s, Bergdorf’s, Barney’s and Ralph Lauren’s Rhinelander Mansion. The experience is invaluable. Fashion students discover the real picture of the industry outside the classroom.

Last year, several students traveled to Paris and London to tour the fashion industries. They visited special fashion exhibits at the Louvre and The V & A Museum, spending time with fashion professionals who work in the international fashion industry. The costs of these tours come from fundraisers such as the “Nearly New Sale.” The “Nearly New Sale” is one of the Fashion Club’s most successful fundraising events, along with the annual Art and Gift Fair.

Fashion Club students also participate in philanthropic activities to raise money for the Susan G. Kohman Breast Cancer Foundation, The Women’s Cancer Research Foundations, and the American Heart Association.

Maps and directions to the “Nearly New Sale” can be found at the college web site: www.deltacollege.edu. The Club accepts cash only. An ATM is on site. Parking is 50 cents per day with daily permits available in the ticket machines in each parking lot.
