Delta College’s “Pipeline” political science club and the Associated Student Body Government (ASBG) will sponsor a mayoral debate between local businesswoman and former city councilmember, Ann Johnston, and Stockton Unified teacher and current city councilmember, Clem Lee.

The two candidates will face-off on Wednesday, October 1, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Atherton Auditorium. This event will be one of several Stockton mayoral debates leading up to the Nov. 4 general election.

Delta College Superintendent/President, Dr. Raul Rodriguez, will act as moderator. Five panelists, selected from Delta’s students and staff, will ask the candidates a series of questions. The panelists are: Catherine Mooney, Director of Admissions and Records; Dr. Wesley Swanson, Instructor of History; Jeffrey Hislop, Instructor of Administration of Justice; David Burr, Associated Student Body Government; Megan McCoy, Delta College student and Pipeline club member.

Themes for the debate will include: Crime; Economic Development; Environmental Concerns; Programs and Services for Seniors and Youth; Stockton’s General Plan; Stockton’s Budget. Audience members will have the opportunity to submit written questions for the candidates.

“This is your opportunity to compare and contrast the positions of both candidates during this critical period in Stockton’s history,” says Jeanne-Marie Velickovic, advisor to Delta’s Pipeline political science club. “Pipeline and ASBG are proud to present this forum to the people of Stockton.”

The Pipeline club will co-sponsor a number of  events at Delta College during this busy political season. A candidate forum with Dean Andal, the Republican candidate for the 11th Congressional District, takes place on Oct. 21 at the West Forum, 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. Candidates for Delta’s Board of Trustees will present their views to the public on October 23, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Atherton Auditorium.  Pipeline will also invite the League of Women Voters to give a "Pro and Con" presentation on propositions in October.
