Delta College Horticulture Program Participates in Stockton Thunder’s “Easy Being Green” Campaign, March 6 & 7
(Stockton, CA)
The Stockton Thunder's "Easy Being Green" is season-long campaign to promote environmental awareness throughout the Central Valley during the 2008-09 hockey season. It will culminate with a "Green" weekend of events on March 6th & 7th. Delta’s Horticulture students have been busy growing trees for the campaign.
The event will feature a "Green Fair" in the Arena's North Conference Center prior to the Thunder hockey games on the 6th and 7th. Beginning each night at 5:30 p.m., fans will have the opportunity to visit booths of local environmentally friendly organizations who will address issues including recycling, pollution, clean air, water, renewable energy sources, eco-friendly agriculture and more.
On both nights, the Thunder will be giving away eco-friendly tote bags to the first 2,000 families, and environmental activity books to the first 2,000 children. Under the guidance of Delta College Horticulture instructor, Mike Toscano, Delta’s Horticulture Program will be giving away tree saplings at the event. In addition, The California Water Service Company will provide water conservation garden nozzles and shower heads, distributed to each family on their way out.
$2 from each group and single game ticket sold to the March 6th & 7th Thunder games, and a portion of proceeds from the Green Fair, will be awarded to an eco-friendly local business in the way of a donation made to the charity of their choice. For more information, please contact Mike Toscano, Delta College Horticulture Instructor: (209) 954-5501, or, mtoscano@deltacollege.edu. ###
