Delta Film Festival Highlights Student Creativity

Lights…Camera…Action!

San Joaquin Delta College’s Associated Student Body Government (ASBG) will hold its annual Delta Film Festival on Friday, April 25th, 8pm at the Empire Theater, 1825 Pacific Avenue in Stockton. Over 30 aspiring Delta College video makers are participating in this year’s competition.

Categories for the competition are: Best Commercial, Short Film, Documentary and Best Music Video. Prizes include a 750 GB Seagate external hard drive, a Manfrotto “Fig Rig” camera support, and a JVC GR-D850 camcorder. The Grand Prize for this year’s festival is a trip to one of Videomaker Magazine’s training conferences on May 17th and 18th.

The Empire Theater venue allows Delta College to show off its talented students to the public. “Delta College is part of the Stockton community, so we wanted to show the films off campus this year,” said Shawna Veach, Delta’s ASBG Senator of Publicity. “One of our main goals is to connect with the community through our students.”

“This year’s festival is looking to be the biggest and best so far,” says Brian Ratto, Senator of College and Community Relations. “It’s great to see Delta’s students participating in a campus event like this.”

Seamus Gormly, Senator of ID Cards and festival organizer, looks forward to using the Empire Theater. “When people see these films on the big screen, everyone will realize what an amazing wealth of talent we have on the Delta campus. The film festival is a great way to share Delta’s talent with our community.”

Delta’s Associated Student Body Government assures us a great time will be had by all. “Everybody is welcome!” Tickets to the event are free and are available at the ASBG office, Shima 101 B, on the campus of Delta College. Tickets can also be reserved by calling 954.5484.
