Delta College Educators Honored by Phi Delta Kappa for Outstanding Contributions to Education

Phi Delta Kappa, the professional association for educators, will honor three San Joaquin Delta College employees at their annual Marc Jantzen Award Banquet.

Interim Assistant Superintendent/V.P. of Instruction, Dr. Kathy Hart, Diana Lee Slawson and Dr. Mary Ann Cox will be honored for their outstanding contributions to local education. This year’s event will take place on Thursday, April 24th, 6p.m. at the Elkhorn Country Club in Stockton.

Dr. Kathy Hart will be recognized for “Distinguished Service in School Administration.” Diana Lee Slawson and Dr. Mary Ann Cox will receive recognition for “Outstanding Contribution to Education,” for their work with the Delta College Foundation.

Steve Sonntag, local chapter president of Phi Delta Kappa, and retired 32-year instructor at Manteca High, says the annual award honors the late Marc Jantzen. Jantzen was an educator who dedicated many years to the success of the local Phi Delta Kappa chapter. “The Marc Jantzen Banquet is a positive experience that acknowledges educators, students and staff,” says Sonntag. “It highlights the benefits of education and validates the hard work of those in education. That’s the reason Phi Delta Kappa exists.”

Sonntag says what educators do dramatically helps students succeed in the classroom and in life. “Dr. Hart, Diana Slawson and Dr. Cox are prime examples of how educators assist student achievement. The Mark Jantzen Awards serves as a celebration of their efforts.”
