The Fashion Club's annual spring Nearly New Sale is set for

Thursday, April 3, 2008 in Danner Hall from 10am to 3pm.

This popular event is a major fundraiser for the Fashion Club. It assists in students'

costs for field trips and fashion tours of the industry. The students work hard all year

to source out inventory from local and national retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers.

They price the inventory and merchandise and display it for sale on the day of the event.

They spend the months prior to the event, developing marketing materials and distributing

information about the event throughout the community. This event provides the students

with an excellent education about the retail side of the business.  Students create their

Nearly New store, stock it, sell to customers, market and advertise to the public. Students

develop skills in sourcing, pricing and selling.

The event has become so popular that people drive from as far away as Sacramento and

Roseville to take advantage of the great deals. Our event has been covered by the

Stockton Record and Good Day Sacramento, as well as other local and regional news media.

The event has become a favorite among the regular customers who have been able to

buy items such as True Religion Jeans for under $10, a Louis Vuitton Hand Bag for $200,

a rare mink hand bag for $150, shoes from Nine West and Franco Sarto for under $10.

Great deals!

This year, the event is supported by generous donations of new inventory from such retailers

as Pottery World in Rocklin; Galetti's, Stage Two and Spike Africa in Lincoln Center; The

Wish List and Simply Charming on the Miracle Mile; Pret and Fashion Safari in Lodi; as well as

San Francisco-based manufacturers like The Sak, Weston Wear, TSD, Flax Designs and

Cut Loose. We also have a few select items such as designer handbags and vintage jewelry

and accessories. Inventory for sale includes new and nearly new apparel and accessories

for men, women and children, and home decor and accessories. Most of the items are still

marked with retail and wholesale price tags. All items are sold for a fraction of the price, at near

garage sale prices. The inventory is seasonal, so shoppers will find spring and summer

apparel and accessories, spring and summer décor for home and garden, as well as many

unique items from estate collections and unique retailers.

The Fashion Program is strongly supported by the local and national fashion industry through

events such as this. Every year, students take an annual trip to New York City to tour the industry

and meet with trade professionals. In the past, students have met known name designers like

Kenneth Cole, Jhane Barnes and Betsey Johnson; designers from companies such as Tommy Hilfiger,

Kate Spade and Paul Chan of ChanPaul; trend forecasters from companies such as Trend Union,

Style Pages and ESP TrendLabs. They’ve had the opportunity to tour top retailers like Henri Bendel’s,

Bergdorf’s, Barney’s and Ralph Lauren’s Rhinelander Mansion. The experience is invaluable, giving

them the real picture of the industry, outside of the classroom.

This year, several students will be traveling to Paris and London to take in special fashion exhibits

at the Louvre and The V & A Museum. All the costs of these tours are funded by the students throug

events such as the Nearly New Sale. The Nearly New Sale is one of the most successful fundraising

events, along with the annual Art and Gift Fairs. Students also participate in philanthropic activities to

raise money for the Susan G. Kohman Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Heart Association.

See you at the sale!
