Delta ASBG Helps Underwrite Annual “Apollo Night” Talent Show

The Delta College Associated Student Body Government (ASBG) will help underwrite next year’s annual “Apollo Night” talent show with a contribution of $2,000.

ASBG Senator of Activities, Brandie Spencer, looks forward to this new partnership. “Part of the agreement involves an Apollo Night audition during September in one of Delta College’s theater venues. We’re helping sponsor Apollo Night because it gives our students an opportunity to showcase their talents, and is such a positive event for our community.

The show is named after the Apollo Theater in New York City. The showcase has become a huge success with performers and audiences.  This year’s show drew 33 acts, 300 performers and an audience of over 1,000 to the Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium.

The Apollo Night talent show was started ten years ago by Stockton resident and local performing arts advocate, Tony Washington. Praised for the positive impact his Apollo Night shows have on the city of Stockton, Washington deflects praise toward the public. “There’s overwhelming love and support from the community for this event. I’m honored.”

For years, Washington has showcased young talent in San Joaquin County and the valley. He hopes to change people’s perspective of youth through the show. “Apollo Night has made a difference in the lives of a lot of young people,” says Washington, “it lets kids know they can make it through an audition…and dream again!”

Over the years, Apollo Night has become known as “Northern California’s #1 Talent Competition.” The first audition for next year’s show will take place on Friday, May 30th, 3 - 6 p.m. at the Seifert Community Center in Stockton.
