SAN JOAQUIN DELTA COLLEGE TO AWARD OVER
$280,000 IN SCHOLARSHIPS

     San Joaquin Delta College will award over $280,000 to students at its annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Wed., Aug. 12th, at 3 p.m. in Atherton Auditorium. A reception will follow in Danner Hall. The public is welcome.

     This year, over 400 awards will be made to 206 recipients, with many receiving multiple scholarships. Students are awarded scholarship money under various criteria, including grade point average (GPA) and demonstrated financial need. Awards range from $100 to $2,000.

     Delta’s Scholarship Awards Ceremony has been an annual event since 1980, when the program first awarded $43,000 in scholarships. This event recognizes the achievements of San Joaquin Delta College students and the generosity of many individuals and organizations whose financial support makes the Scholarship Awards Ceremony possible. During the past 30 years, Delta’s Scholarship Program has awarded over $4.5-million in scholarships.     

     San Joaquin Delta College Superintendent/President, Dr. Raul Rodriguez, believes Delta’s success in building its scholarship fund depends on the efforts of its employees and community members.  “Delta’s Scholarship Program is a partnership between the college, community organizations and individuals whose generous financial support honors and promotes higher education. We deeply appreciate and applaud the commitment of our community partners. We simply could not do it without them.”

     Dr. Rodriguez says the wish of Delta College is to “Make students’ dreams come true.”  He believes Delta’s Scholarship Program will make considerable progress toward that goal. “The pride of Delta College is our students, especially our scholarship recipients. We’re here to assist in every way we can.”
