DELTA COLLEGE AWARDS $13,000 FOR ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

(Stockton)

San Joaquin Delta College awarded academic scholarships totaling $13,000 to outstanding local High School and Delta College students. A reception, with family, friends and Delta College officials in attendance, took place at Danner Hall on Thursday evening, May 22, 2008.

This year, twenty-five students received awards. Delta College Interim Vice-President and Superintendent, Dr. Kathy Hart, and SJDC Academic Scholarship Council President and Delta College Trustee Anthony Bugarin, offered words of praise and encouragement for the winning students. President Bugarin and Executive Secretary of the SJDC Academic Scholarship Council, Dr. Charles Jennings (SJDC Dean of general Education and Transfer) presented the awards.

Administered by Delta College’s Academic Scholarship Council, these scholarships cover three main categories: Incoming High School, Delta College Continuing Students and

Transfer Students.

High School winners representing the cities of Galt, Linden, Lodi, Manteca, San Andreas, Stockton, Sutter Creek, and Tracy, took home $500 scholarships. There were five winners in the Continuing Students Category. These Delta College students receiving $500 scholarships represent diverse disciplines in Architectural Drafting, Biological and Physical Sciences, Communications, Education, Engineering, Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.

Delta College Student Wei Lin earned a $1000 scholarship in the Transfer Student category. Mr. Lin will continue his engineering education this fall at a four-year institution of his choice, either U.C. Davis or U.C. Berkeley.
