DELTA COLLEGE PRESENTS “EDUCATION IS POWER” A DAY WITH SAL CASTRO

(Stockton)

San Joaquin Delta College Cultural Awareness Programs (CAP) and the Puente Project present “Education is Power” A day with Sal Castro. This presentation will take place at the Atherton Auditorium on Thursday, Sept. 27 from 11am-2pm. This event is FREE to the public.

Highlighting Mr. Castro’s presentation is a screening (11am-12:20pm) of the HBO movie about his life, WALKOUT. WALKOUT is the story of the historic 1968 Chicano Student protest in East L.A. Mr. Castro will take audience questions after the showing untill 2pm. A reception will be held in Sal Castro’s honor from 2-4pm in Upper Danner Hall.

In the late 1960s, Sal Castro was a charismatic young Mexican American teacher in East Los Angeles. Mr. Castro inspired students to learn about themselves and take a stand against institutions in East LA. Students from Garfield, Roosevelt, Wilson, Lincoln and Belmont High Schools walked out in protest for what they deemed oppressive conditions and tactics that school administrators condoned. This is the story of the movie, WALKOUT.
