DELTA COLLEGE ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH STANISLAUS COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT REGIONAL TRAINING CENTER
(Stockton, CA)
San Joaquin Delta College has entered into an agreement to teach POST (Police Officers Standards and Training) courses at the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department Regional Training Center, located at 3805 Cornucopia Way in Modesto. Representatives from law enforcement agencies in San Joaquin County are working in partnership with Sheriff Adam Christianson and the training center staff to provide Basic Academy Peace Officer Training.
The Stanislaus training center had previously been administered by Modesto Jr. College. In July 2007 Modesto JC agreed to allow Delta to offer instruction within its district’s boundaries. Delta College is currently offering course credit to Cadets enrolled in the POST Basic Academy program.
Jared Zwickey, Coordinator of Public Safety Programs for Delta College says, “Our affiliation with the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department makes Delta College and the sheriff’s department one of the largest providers of law enforcement training in the State. We will provide law enforcement instruction for eight counties: San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Calaveras, Tuolumne, Amador, Alpine and Mariposa.”
Lieutenant Jim Gordon of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department is the Academy Director of the Stanislaus Training Center. The training complex was built in 1997 as a cooperative effort between the Modesto Police Department and the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department. The training center offers state of the art training facilities, including a gym, weight room, multiple classrooms and administrative offices. The firearms range and driving course are located in Modesto.
Zwickey says the Stanislaus partnership allows San Joaquin Delta College to move forward with future training opportunities. Proposed courses include: Advanced Driver Training, Correctional Officer Training, Dispatcher Training and other professional training courses.
The law enforcement community is excited about the new affiliation as well as representatives from the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission. “This agreement is an example of what can be accomplished when educators work together to create educational partnerships that benefit the communities they serve.”
