DELTA COLLEGE FASHION CLUB’S “NEARLY NEW SALE” SUPPORTS FASHION EDUCATION
(Stockton, CA)
The Delta College Fashion Club's popular semi-annual “Nearly New Sale” will be held Friday and Saturday, November 2nd and 3rd in Danner Hall on the Delta College Campus. This sale is so popular the Club has extended it to a two-day event. Friday hours are from 10 am to 2 pm and Saturday, 8 am to 2 pm.
This trendy event is a major fundraiser for the fashion club. It assists students’ costs for field trips and fashion tours of the industry. Students work hard all year to source out inventory from local and national retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers. They price inventory then merchandise and display it for sale the day of the event. Marketing materials are developed months prior to the sale and distributed throughout the community. Students learn the retail side of the business and create their “Nearly New” store. They stock it, sell to customers, market, advertise and develop skills in sourcing, pricing and selling. An invaluable learning experience.
Inventory for sale includes new and nearly new apparel and accessories for men, women and children. Home decor and accessories start as low as $1. Most items are still marked with retail and wholesale price tags. All items are sold for a fraction of the price, at near garage sale prices. The inventory is seasonal, so shoppers will find fall and winter apparel and accessories. Décor for home, garden as well as many unique items from estate collections and exclusive retailers are included. Popular items include $5 jeans rack, $1 t-shirt rack and women’s shoes starting as low as $2. The sale has select items such as designer handbags and vintage jewelry and accessories. With shoes from Sacha of London, Richard Tyler, Franco Sarto and Nine West, the prices are a true bargain!
This year’s event is supported by generous donations of new inventory from local retailers: Galetti's, Stage Two, Gary Long’s Jeweler’s, LaDeDa, DeVon’s and Spike Africa in Lincoln Center, The Wish List and Simply Charming on the Miracle Mile, Pret, Sierra Adventure Outfitters, Fashion Safari in Lodi as well as San Francisco-based manufacturers like The Sak, Weston Wear, TSD, Flax Designs, Cut Loose, and many more.
Delta College’s Fashion Program is strongly supported by the local and national fashion industry. Every year, students take an annual trip to New York City to tour the industry and meet with business professionals. In the past, students have met name designers like Kenneth Cole, Jhane Barnes, Betsey Johnson and designers from companies such as Tommy Hilfiger, Kate Spade and Paul Chan of ChanPaul. Students learn from trend forecasters from companies like Trend Union, Style Pages and ESP TrendLabs. Students visit top retailers like Henri Bendel’s, Bergdorf’s, Barney’s and Ralph Lauren’s Rhinelander Mansion. The experience gives students a real picture of the industry outside the classroom.
In order to participate in these educational trips, the students stage fundraisers for their expenses. The “Nearly New Sale” is one of the most successful fundraising events, along with the annual Art and Gift Fairs. Students also participate in philanthropic activities such as Lee Jean’s National Denim Day and Pink Ribbon Month, raising money for the Susan G. Kohman Breast Cancer Foundation and the American Heart Association. The Fashion Program supports the American Cancer Society by providing visual merchandising to their Discover Shop and to the various events that assist in cancer awareness.
