DELTA'S MIDDLE COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL RANKED AS BRONZE MEDAL WINNER BY U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT

U. S. News and world report analyzed data from almost 19-thousand high schools from 40 states to produce its list of the nation’s best. Delta College’s Middle College High School received a bronze award. Only about one in 19 high schools received a bronze award.
U.S. News says the top schools are a diverse bunch, each finding a unique way to teach our future leaders. Proficiency standards were used as the measuring benchmarks. A three-step process determined the best high schools. The first step determined whether each school's students were performing better than statistically expected for the average student in their state. The second step determined whether the school's least-advantaged students (black, Hispanic, and low-income) were performing better than average for similar students in the state. Math and reading were used for this evaluation. For those schools that made it past the first two steps, a third step assessed the degree to which schools prepared students for college-level work. Advanced placement data was used as a benchmark for this step.
Last semester, Middle College students took 422 college-level courses. 75 percent received a 'B' or better. Sherry Balian, principal at Middle College, says success is the result of caring staff members, dedicated teachers, and fantastic support from San Joaquin Delta College.
"It's extremely rewarding," Balian said of the school's accomplishment. "I’m so proud of our instructors and students."
