LEO P. BURKE TO BE INSTALLED AS NEW DELTA COLLEGE BOARD OF TRUSTEES PRESIDENT

(Stockton)

 

Delta College Trustee Leo P. Burke will be installed as the next President of San Joaquin Delta College’s Board of Trustees. He will officially rotate into the position of President at Tuesday night’s meeting (12/4/07). Mr. Burke will take the place of Trustee Maria Elena Serna, who is serving out her one year term as president. In addition, the Board will vote on new officer positions at Tuesday’s meeting.

 

Representing Central Stockton (Area 2), Leo Burke has been a member of the Delta College board for the better part of 28 years. Mr. Burke has an extensive history of service to Stockton and the local community as manager of the Stockton Civic Auditorium, retiring in 1992 after 30 years. His experience with show production and backstage management segued into the creation of Lights West, a Lodi theatrical lighting company.

 

A former WWII Marine Corps veteran in the South Pacific, Burke has been a member of the American Legion since 1959. He was a former commander and founding member of Karl Ross Post No. 16, later serving as California state commander.

 

 Mr. Burke’s has a distinguished history of service to veterans and veterans’ affairs, holding numerous local, state and national posts. Positions and appointments include: National Legislative Commission Vice Chairman of The American Legion, Board Member of the Disabled American Veterans Charities of San Joaquin County and former chairman of the California Veterans Board. He was appointed by former Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Anthony J. Principi, to serve on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee of Cemeteries and Memorials in 2002.

 

Mr. Burke also served as a panel member on George W. Bush’s White House Conference on Aging in 2005.

 

The San Joaquin Delta Community College District is governed by a Board of Trustees consisting of seven voting members, elected from trustee areas during general elections. The board also includes a student representative, appointed by Delta’s student government.
