JULIA DOLLISON HEADLINES DELTA COLLEGE “BIG BAND JAZZ CONCERT” AT ATHERTON AUDITORIUM

Jazz vocalist Julia Dollison will be the featured performer at Delta College’s Big Band Jazz Concert on Saturday, November 8th, 7:30pm at Atherton Auditorium. This concert will include the Delta Jazz Ensembles directed by Brian Kendrick and the newly formed vocal jazz group Delta Sound directed by Kerry Marsh. The evening concert will feature works by Quincy Jones, Dave Brubeck, Maria Schneider, Kenny Wheeler, and Kerry Marsh.
The Washington Post called Julia Dollison, “A deeply moving musical virtuoso with an airy, luminous voice.” Maria Schneider describes her singing as “An absolute joy.” Kenny Wheeler praises her as “A wonderful vocalist and improviser, also a great lyricist.”
Down Beat Magazine named Julia Dollison “Best Jazz Vocal Soloist in 2000.” Her debut recording Observatory has been met with rave reviews. The Wall Street Journal says Observatory contains songs sung in a “Richly imaginative, pigeonhole-eluding style that lies somewhere in the no-man’s land separating jazz from pop.”
