DELTA STUDENT BODY GOVERNMENT SPREADS THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT WITH ITS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS DINNER PARTY FOR THE NEEDY

(Stockton)

San Joaquin Delta College’s Associated Student Body Government (ASBG) brings the true spirit of Christmas to the campus each season. This year marked their 17th Annual CARE (Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education) Christmas Dinner Party. The Christmas celebration is for Delta’s TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) students. The party was held last Friday evening (12/7) in Danner Hall. 451 students and children attended.

The festivities began with activities and games for the children. Each child got to visit Santa Claus (played by student Jared Borba) and received a gift. Delta’s TANF students received wonderful raffle prizes. No participant went home without a prize.

In keeping with the season, Delta College’s students and clubs are always happy to lend a helping hand for the CARE celebration. The “Educated Caterers” culinary club catered this year’s dinner. Dinner consisted of turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, a green bean medley, cranberry sauce and rolls. Delicious apple and pumpkin pie were prepared by Delta’s Artisan Baker’s club. Entertainment was provided by the Mike Rocha Jazz Band. Santa’s workshop was decorated by Delta’s Fashion Club. Club members and ASBG officers acted as “Santa’s Helpers,” with set-up, and wrapping and delivery of presents.

The CARE Christmas Party for needy students is always an important event for Delta’s student government. All ASBG Officers pulled together to coordinate this worthy event. Once again they succeeded in making the Christmas party a joyful experience for all.

Left over food and toys are donated to organizations like the Stockton Children’s Home and Transitional Learning Center of Saint Mary’s Interfaith.
