DELTA COLLEGE PRESENTS “KEECHA VADHA” PERFORMED BY THE KUCHIPUDI DANCE TROUPE OF SOUTH INDIA
(Stockton)
San Joaquin Delta College Cultural Awareness Programs (CAPs) presents the Indian dance drama, “Keecha Vadha.” Dance master Natya Kala Ratna and the Kuchipudi Dance Troupe from South India will perform this exciting ballet at Atherton Auditorium on Tuesday, Nov. 6th, 11:30am-1pm.
Admission is free!
Natya Kala Ratna is one of India’s most famous performers, choreographers and teachers of Kuchipudi Dance. He has won numerous awards for his work and is currently touring the U.S. with the Kuchipudi Dance Ballet Troup.
Kuchipudi, an art form from South India, presents scenes from Hindu Epics and mythological tales through dance-dramas. Kuchipudi combines music, dance and acting. Kuchipudi dance enjoys a recent revival, and is recognized as one of India’s foremost classical dance styles. Like all classical dance styles of India, it is both interpretive and lyrical, making use of abstract dance sequences.
Indian Dance Instructor Swetha Dixit of Livermore says the dance drama “Keecha Vadha” is of special interest to a broad spectrum of students and the Stockton community. “Set in ancient India, this drama deals with situations as problematic today as yesterday. Keecha Vadha will be of interest to linguists, historians, social studies students as well as fine arts students. Don’t miss it!”
