Delta College Employee Wins 3rd Aurora Video Award!
(Stockton, CA) --
Delta College’s Public Information Media Coordinator, Jim Vergara has won a Gold Aurora Award for the video POST Academy. The Aurora Awards are a national and international competition recognizing excellence in the Film and Video Industries.
Recent winners include: Academy of Television Arts & Science Foundation, Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Cisco Systems, Coca-Cola, Discovery Channel, Exxon-Mobil, Geico, Intel, Time/Life Entertainment.
POST Academy is a recruiting tape for Delta College’s Police Academy. Shot in a documentary style, POST Academy shows the rigors of training, discipline and dedication necessary to be a successful Delta College Cadet.
“I always challenge myself to make videos that look as good as the ‘Big Guys’ who have huge budgets,” Vergara says. “I make up for it by being a good (and on occasion) offbeat editor. I have a clear vision of what is effective visually.”
This is Vergara’s 3rd Aurora Award. Previously, he won for a 30 second Delta College commercial, “Sketches of Delta” where an artist’s charcoal sketches turn into beautiful color photos of campus life. Another Aurora winner was a documentary for Delta College’s Drama Department, “The Making of Jesus Christ Superstar.”
“I think I’ve become excellent at shooting and editing in a documentary style,” adds Vergara.
Vergara likes to enter national competitions. In addition to his Aurora Awards, he has won 7 Telly Awards for a variety of Delta College videos and commercials. The Telly Award is one of the most sought-after awards by industry leaders, from large international firms to local production companies. With over 13-thousand entries in 2006, The Telly honors outstanding local & regional cable TV commercials and productions.
To what does Mr. Vergara attribute his success in competitions? “A lot of hard work…and a bit of talent.”
