Delta College Board of Trustees Authorize Option to Purchase Lodi Land

(Stockton, CA) – In a six-to-one vote, the San Joaquin Delta Community College District Board of Trustees gave the go ahead for Superintendent/President Raul Rodriguez to execute Option Agreements and Joint Escrow Instructions with the property owners for the district’s purchase of approximately 168 acres of real property located between East Highway 12 and the Mokelumne River, east of Highway 99, in the Lodi area.

In the Open session of the March 7 Board meeting, President Ted Simas reported the action that the board took during the closed session.  The motion to accept the proposal was made by Trustee Anthony Bugarin.  Vice President of the Board Maria Elena Serna, who serves as the North County Committee Chairperson, seconded the motion.  Bugarin and Trustee Dan Parises also serve on the North County Committee.

“This is a big first step toward the possibility of having a center in Lodi,” Serna commented.

The district has 180 days to determine whether the property meets the needs of its intended use as an education center.  The feasibility period, which began March 7, will end in September 2006.
