Mariachi Los Mesteños to Perform at Delta College
(Stockton,CA) - San Joaquin Delta College Fine Arts Department is proud to announce that Mariachi Los Mesteños will present a concert of strictly mariachi music on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005 in Delta's Warren Atherton Auditorium. Scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., the program features music performed by members of Delta's String Ensemble classes Music 58 and Music 102 under the direction of Jose Barron.
Two other mariachi ensembles, will follow. The first, Mariachi Tesoro, is led by Leonard Modesto. Membership has come from those enrolled in the class. They have performed at the San Joaquin County Library in Stockton as well as at the Haggin Museum and San Joaquin County Fair. During the summer, they were featured at many local private social functions.
After a brief intermission, Mariachi Cali, will conclude the program. Since they organized in 2003, they have been quite busy playing for numerous social functions through out the San Joaquin Valley. Several members have attended workshops for mariachi in New Mexico, Arizona and Texas and the famous Guadalajara International Mariachi Festival held annually in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. This widely known festival attracts musicians from many parts of the world, including the USA, Cuba, Japan, Mexico and numerous Central and South American countries. Mariachi Cali is under the artistic direction of AnnaMaria Villar, a class member since the fall of 2001.
No mariachi concert would be complete without the traditional ballet folklorico. Under the artistic direction of Roxanna Borrego, "Raices de mi Tierra", from Sacramento will perform to the music of all three groups.
