Composer Series Offers Music for All Souls

(Stockton, CA) The series includes original works by composers John Hillebrandt, Robert Ian Winstin and a world premier ensemble work by Max Simoncic featuring Michael Duffet’s poem Ode For All Souls .  The poem will be narrated by the author.  Additional works include music for piano and violin, electronic music with voice and solo piano music. The concert will be in Tillie Lewis Theatre, Friday, October 28, 2005 at 7:30 p.m.

Michael Duffett is Senior Tutor and Professor of Humanities at Humphreys College in Stockton.  He has published extensively in prose and verse, a play of his, MOUNTAIN, was produced on NPR and his most well-known book is “Forever Avenue” described as “short stories in verse.”

John Hillebrandt is a Lecturer and Staff Accompanist at C.S.U., Stanislaus. He has received many honors as both a pianist and composer, including first prize in the Florida West Coast Chopin Piano Competition and the American Matthay Associations’s Clara Wells Memorial Piano Competition.

Max Simoncic, is a recent award winner of Ermmedia’s competition “Masterworks of the New Era” recorded by the Kiev Philharmonic.  He is currently composing a new work commissioned by the Stockton Symphony for its 80th anniversary.

Robert Ian Winstin’s compositional output seems to defy categorization. At times he is blatantly neo-classical, as in his “Symphony #5” (‘Symphony of Song’), and in other works, even from the same compositional era, he seems to flaunt convention, as in his

very interesting ‘music history’ work “Opening Night Overture”, and writes completely Out of the Box.
