Delta College Community Reaches Out to
Assist Another "Delta" Community

In the latest effort to support the Hurricane Relief efforts, a San Joaquin Delta College District trustee has pledged one thousand dollars. Other efforts are still ongoing: three students from Louisiana have registered at Delta College. One was living in New Orleans. Additionally, the Delta College Foundation created a fund and is working with the Fine Arts Division Dean to create a community event to raise funds to support relief efforts. The Middle College High School Student Government at Delta College sponsored a car wash and earned $410 to support the relief effort. A Delta College student, Mary Huyen Tran, is a Red Cross Volunteer who has gone to help with the efforts in Houston.

One of the Delta College Nursing instructors is standing by to travel to the affected region to support relief efforts in the Louisiana area.  She will be part of a local effort that is composed of more than 20 medical professionals who are volunteering their services.  Other assistance is on the way, the Student Government has voted to contribute $5,000 to the relief effort. At this time, Delta College is planning a community concert to raise funds for the local Red Cross and to help newly arriving Delta students who were directly affected by the hurricane. Finally, our director of Admissions and Records has been collecting basic personal needs items such as hand sanitizer, etc., that she is sending to a relief effort in Biloxi, MS.
