This course is an examination of African American history from Reconstruction to the present. Some topics of key interest include the following: the "Jim Crow" period; the careers of Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois; the post-World War II Civil Rights Movement; the Black Power Era and the African American experience in contemporary America. This course fulfills the Social Science (group A) requirement for the AA and AS degrees and applies toward the completion of California State requirements in U.S. History and Institutions and California State and Local Government.
