Basic Peace Officer Academy, Certificate of Achievement

Upon successful completion of the Basic Peace Officer Academy Modular Format, the students will receive a certificate of completion that qualifies them for employment as a California Peace Officer, Deputy Sheriff, Level I Reserve Officer. The student will have successfully demonstrated his or her ability to demonstrate ethical conduct; make judgments concerning the enforcement of the law without prejudice; apply the level of force that can lawfully be used by a peace officer; recognize the importance of initial and ongoing training in coping with dangerous situations; analyze and solve problems; write reports that conform to accepted professional standards of quality; and recognize and understand the concepts and terminology that is needed to understand the California criminal justice system. The California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training accredits this program.

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Students will perform the duties of a Level I Reserve Peace Officer, or full time Peace Officer as defined by Peace Officer Training and Standards (POST).
2. Students will demonstrate the knowledge of a citizen's civil rights protected by the United States Constitution.
3. Students will demonstrate the ability to recognize and apply the level and types of force that can lawfully be used by a peace officer.

Complete 36 units

Minimum Units Required: 36

Complete all courses with a grade of "C" or better.
