Track & Field (Men and Women)The incredible tradition of track and field that began with the coaching of Merv Smith and Raydell Barkley at Delta College continues. During their eras they turned out numerous track and field athletes many of whom are now coaches. With the completion of the new state-of-the-art track and field facilities, Delta College is regaining its prominence in northern California. In the 2014 season, the women's team was Big 8 champions and both men's and women's teams finished eighth in the state. The track facilities include the highest grade Mondo track available in the world, as used by athletes at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. The track has nine Olympic-width lanes including international markings required for hosting relay meets. There are two pole vault areas, two long and triple jump pits with Mondo surfaced covers, and a Mondo surfaced high jump area. The throws arena includes four shot put rinks, separate hammer and discus throwing rinks, and a Mondo surface javelin runway. Under head coach Lauryn Jordan the program is growing and thriving. |
